A legend reborn...

The Codru Hotel Complex (106 rooms, a residence and a restaurant) first opened on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic, on 12 October 1974. Leonid Brezhnev was the first VIP Guest to stay at the hotel, reportedly being impressed by it. On his direct orders, architects came from as far as Vladivostok,  to see how a residence should be designed. Almost everything was individually manufactured, including the furniture and tapestries.

Codru was a true landmark of Chisinau. Its restaurant was host to numerous official state dinners, as well as tourist delegations. After 43 years of continuous operation, the restaurant has now reopened its doors in a new location, in the historic center of Moldova's capital.
